"Join the Family" Har Mishpacha Membership Drive

"We joined the family (Har Mishpacha) because we are newer residents to Steamboat & were looking to meet more Jewish community members. The congregation has been so warm & welcoming. There's always an event, service, or gathering to join. We're constantly impressed by Rabbi Kolby & Har Mishpacha's passion, strength, & commitment to the Jewish community in Steamboat."

-Manny & Johanna Ladis

Join or Renew Your Membership

If you are interested in joining as a new member, please email info@harmishpacha.org before completing the membership application.

At Har Mishpacha, we are more than just a congregation: we are a Mountain Family. Each year, your membership makes it possible for us to gather, learn, celebrate, and support one another.

Why "Join the Family"?

Every week during our "Join the Family" drive, we will be highlighting a story of a Har Mishpacha member and why they choose to be part of our family. Look for these in our weekly updates and here on this site!

Membership Contributions

Those who were part of the family last year may notice an increase in our lowest membership contribution level for 5786. This change reflects the reality of our growing congregation, dedicated staff, and expanding program offerings.

We have many different membership contribution levels and encourage you to contribute at whatever level meets your budget. The most important thing is that you are a part of our family. If finances are a barrier, please reach out to us privately: no one will ever be turned away.

Our sustaining level of membership is $2,500. This means that if every household contributed at that level, 100% of our operational needs would be covered.

If you are able and willing to contribute at or above the sustaining level, your generosity helps carry the weight for those who cannot and allows us to:

  • Expand youth school programming
  • Invest in future programming and events
  • Build toward a stronger endowment for our community’s future

This is how we create our village... together.

Membership FAQs

What if I have multiple synagogue memberships (I’m a part-timer)?
We value and appreciate your support. Unlike larger cities, funding is harder to come by in the mountains, and the growth of our congregation depends on the full support of our members. That’s why we don’t have a “part-time membership” category. Your membership here ensures that our Mountain Family can thrive.

Are there incentives for high donors (special programs or gifts)?
In our small community, exclusivity doesn’t feel right. Instead, we express our gratitude in meaningful ways, such as acknowledging donors in our newsletter (unless you prefer to remain anonymous). Every contribution, at every level, is valued deeply.

If only one person in my family is engaged in synagogue life, can I contribute at the single level?
Our individual membership level is intended for a true individual that does not have a spouse or family.  Membership contribution isn't a punch card for synagogue life, and Har Mishpacha membership supports the entirety of the community. We ask  that if you are a part of a family, even with differing levels of participation in your family, that you consider donating at the Family Membership level or higher if you are able to.

Are there extra fees in addition to membership?
No! This year, youth program tuition is included in membership. We also recognize that contributing isn’t just about dollars... you can support Har Mishpacha by volunteering, joining a committee, or helping in other ways. Please reach out to Alexa if you’d like to get involved.

How can I find out the membership dues amount I paid last year?
Once you have created a Member account (reach out to Alexa@harmishpacha.org for more details), on your "My Account" page, view the "My Transactions" screen and you will see your donation history and be able to find your giving level from last year.

Together, We Build Our Future

Membership is how we sustain and grow Har Mishpacha. Every contribution makes a difference. By joining or renewing your membership in our Mountain Family today, you’re ensuring that we continue to thrive... this year and l'dor vador.

Thank you for being part of our story, our family, and our future.

No  one will be denied membership due to financial hardship. Please contact Rabbi Kolby rabbikolby@harmishpacha.org  (or a Har Mishpacha board member with whom you feel comfortable) if you would like to set up a payment plan, need financial assistance, or have questions about our membership giving levels.  All contacts will be confidential.

I joined the family because at the lowest point in my life, I truly felt the presence of God. Becoming Jewish was not a decision I made lightly. It came after years of learning, questioning, & seeking. In that moment of darkness, I realized I wasn’t alone. I felt love, strength, & protection - and I knew I was being led home. That moment changed everything. It became clear this wasn’t just a desire - it was a calling. My background, my struggles, & my searching had all brought me to this path. I am deeply grateful — to God, to life, to my family & friends, & to this community that welcomed me with open arms.

“We joined the family (Har Mishpacha) because we were looking to find a welcoming and familiar community as we began to make Steamboat our home, 25 years after Greg’s parents first made it theirs.”

- Mark Staloff and Greg Bowne

We joined the family because...
"We are part-timers In Steamboat, and being members of Har Mish has helped us form new friendships and feel much more connected to the local community. Har Mish fosters a community that brings together the part-time and full-time residents. It also provides us with an opportunity to participate in the growth of the Jewish presence in Steamboat and Northwestern Colorado. Finally, the Rabbi and services provide meaningful Jewish experiences that we enjoy sharing."

-Har Mishpacha members Henry Birnkrant and Lynn Goldin

"We originally joined the congregation during our first stint living in Steamboat (from 2011-2020). We watched it grow but had to say goodbye when we left the valley during the first wave of COVID. We always wanted to return and found ourselves unexpectedly moving back to Steamboat in late January of 2025 as a family trauma began to unfold. The circumstances under which we came back were not ideal, however, we were so excited to rejoin the community, and the way we've been welcomed back, loved, protected, etc, has been nothing short of miraculous. Our Rabbi in Denver always says she believes G-d shows up in the way we come together in the face of hard times; we've seen and felt that so much this year, and there is no doubt Har Mishpacha is a special community that shows up for everyone. Can't wait to pay that forward!"
